Mr. Igor GLEK (born 07.11.1961 in Moscow, USSR)

International Grandmaster, FIDE Senior Trainer, FIDE International Organizer, FIDE Arbiter.

The winner > 250 international tournaments, the highest rating – 2670 (12th in the World) — in year 1996; Champion and vice-champion of World TeleOlympiad (1990, for USSR team), Europe – playing for the national (1997) and clubs (2001, 2002) teams of Russia; multiple club’s champion of USSR, Russia, Belgium, Switzerland, Netherlands.

I’m the professional chess player since 1989, in 1990 I was rewarded with the title of International Grandmaster.

Trainers experience is 50 years (since 1976, when I become chess teacher in youth pioners summer camps in USSR).

Coach, second and sparring partner of many famous top-players incl. World Champions, Youth World, European, Russia and Germany champions.

Coach and adviser of many national, clubs,  youth teams and players: USSR, Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Holland, Italy, Luxemburg, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Kirgizstan, Irak, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Botswana, Namibia, Tunisia.

In July-August 2009 – one of the coaches of the Russian women’s team, which became the World Vice-champion in September 2009 and the European Champion in November 2009.

Also well known as a chess theorist. Popular opening lines takes GLEK’s name: 4.g3 in Four Knights Opening and 7…Na6 in Classical System of the Kings Indian Defense. The author of the opening’s monographie ” “4.g2-g3 in Four Knights Opening – Glek Variation” (Germany 1998) and of many articles and surveys by leading World Chess Theory Magazines “New in Chess” and “SOS” (The Netherlands).

 Head of the authors collective of 3-chess school books series recommend by Russian Education Ministry (2018: Chess Basic Course; Taktics; Strategy)

2010-2015 Teacher and head of “Chess” specialization by Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth T & Tourism (biggest sport university of Europe).

One of creators ACP (Association of Chess Professionals) in 2003.

ACP Board Member 2004-2009, ACP General secretary 2008-09.

Director of “Moscow Open” chess festival in 2005-08.

Member of FIDE commissions: “Chess in School”, “Kids & Juniors competitions”: 2005-10; Trainers commission (TRG): 2020-18.

Official FIDE Lecturer in 2010-18, head of FIDE Trainings seminars in Russia, Tunisia, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania 2011-17.

Organiser and arbiter of more than 150 events in 2009-2022, kids and adults tournaments in Moscow, rating and norms tournaments, district festivals “Troparevo Rook” 2018-21 etс.

Creator of two districts chess clubs in Moscow 2017-22.

President of East and West Moscow Chess Federations 2011-22.

Vice-president Moscow Chess Federation 2019-22, President of Moscow Draughts Federation 2021-22.

Elected municipal deputy in Troparevo-Nikulino district, West Moscow 2017- 22.

Candidate for the Moscow city parliament (2019, 2nd place) and Russian Federation parliament (2021).

After beginning of war (February 2022) I live in Berlin, Germany.

Since May 2022 I play for Royal Belgian Chess Federation, incl. 2 European Teams Ch. 2023 and 2025.
